Russian attacks claimed the lives of 26 civilians in Ukraine on May 14
On May 14, 2026, 26 civilians were killed in Kyiv and the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions due to Russian shelling. At least 127 others sustained injuries, including in the Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Chernihiv regions, according to the National Police of Ukraine.

- 21 adults and three children in Kyiv;
- An elderly woman in Kherson, who was targeted by a Russian drone strike;
- An elderly man in Stepnohirsk, who was struck by a Russian UAV.
In addition to the fatalities, at least 48 people sustained injuries due to the Russian strike on Kyiv. Rescue operations at the site in the Darnytskyi District continued throughout the entire previous day.
Another 38 civilians were wounded by Russian military strikes in the Kharkiv Oblast. The majority of them – including nine children – are residents of Kharkiv, where Russian forces targeted several districts simultaneously.
Ten people were injured in the Kherson Oblast, where the Russian army attacked using artillery, Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), and various types of drones. Additionally, the regional daily report included two women who were injured in enemy strikes several days earlier.

Four people, including another child, were injured in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, while in the Chernihiv Oblast, a mother and daughter were caught in a Russian attack.
To provide background, over the course of May 13, Russian military shelling killed six civilians in Ukraine.
In the first four months of 2026, 815 civilians fell victim to Russian shelling in Ukraine, with another 1,404 sustaining various injuries. According to UN estimates, this is higher than during the same period in any other year of the full-scale Russian invasion.
In other news, Eurovision Director Martin Green admits the possibility that Russia could return to the contest, even if Russians will further kill Ukrainians in their unprovoked war, he stated in an interview with British journalist Pablo O’Hana.
Speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One while returning from China on May 15, U.S. President Donald Trump said the Russian missile strike on an apartment building in Kyiv, which killed 24 people, could hinder efforts to reach a peaceful settlement of the war.
According to Reuters, Trump said he discussed the war in Ukraine with Chinese President Xi Jinping and that both leaders allegedly agreed to end the fighting.
“It’s one that we’d like to see settled. Until last night, it was looking good, but they [the Ukrainians] took a big hit last night. So it’s gonna happen [the end of the war]. But it’s a shame,” Trump said, referring to the Russian strike on Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for Russia to be punished for the strike after laying red roses on the rubble of the residential building on Friday.
Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is expected to visit China next week and meet Xi.
