More than 60 delegations have confirmed their participation in the Fifth Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform, which will take place on 7 December 2026 in London. The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People is preparing proposals to strengthen the platform’s practical effectiveness and to shape the summit’s final documents, the Mejlis chair, Refat Chubarov, reported after a meeting with the acting chargé d’affaires of the British Embassy in Ukraine, Charlotte Surun, on 22 October.

The meeting was attended by the leader of the Crimean Tatar people, Member of Parliament Mustafa Dzhemilev, Mejlis deputy chairs Ilmi Umerov and Akhtem Chiygoz, and other members of the organisation.

The parties discussed the course of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the human rights situation in occupied Crimea, and the status of Crimean Tatar political prisoners, some of whom have serious health problems and are held in Russian prisons.

Mejlis representatives stressed that any territorial concessions regarding Crimea or the postponement of a decision on its status cannot form the basis for peace. They stated that such scenarios threaten the existence of the Crimean Tatar people.

The Mejlis also stated that diplomatic pressure and limited sanctions are insufficient to secure the release of political prisoners, and that they consider de-occupation and the restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty to be the only way to end repression on the peninsula.

Separately, the meeting participants discussed preparations for the Crimea Platform parliamentary summit. According to Chubarov, the Mejlis is coordinating its efforts with the leadership of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada and has already proposed a number of initiatives on the forum’s content and final documents.

The Mejlis chair noted that against the backdrop of global changes and the shifting position of the US, the summit in London must serve as a response to attempts to promote unfair options for ending the war and questionable peace agreements.

For her part, Charlotte Surun affirmed that the position of the United Kingdom remains unchanged: Crimea and other Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia must be liberated, and the end of the war cannot involve compromises regarding Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue their cooperation, particularly regarding the implementation of the Mejlis’s proposals for the parliamentary summit.

In September 2025, at the fifth Crimea Platform summit, held at UN headquarters, participants adopted a joint New York Declaration. The document condemns the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine and the continued occupation of some Ukrainian territories. It once again demands that Russia withdraw its troops.
