In Crimea court denied Umerov’s complaint on right for protection
The Supreme Court of the occupied Crimea declined the appeal of Ilmi Umerov, the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, against the court’s decision to allow the investigative actions against Mykola Polozov.
As reported by Umerov on his Facebook page.
“The Supreme Court of the Crimea denied my appeal against the decision of Kyiv District Court of Simferopol, of December 13, 2016, which allowed execution of investigative actions against lawyer Mykola Polozov in my criminal case… They have not even considered it…”, – he wrote.
According to Umerov, the consideration of Polozov’s appeal is scheduled for February 14.
“A witness in the case cannot be a lawyer in the same case… We won’t be enthralled by illusions, but will defend ourselves…”, – noted Umerov.
As a reminder, on January 25, officers of the FSB detained lawyer Mykola Polozov, who is defendeding the interests of Deputy Chairmen of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Ahtem Chiygoz and Ilmi Umerov in the court. Polozov himself assesses his arrest as a kidnapping.
In November 2016, Polozov stated that the FSB investigator in Umerov’s case, who is accused of “separatism” by the Russian Federation, is trying to remove him from the case by changing status of Polozov to the witness and interrogating the lawyer.
