In the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, an overnight strike by the Russian military wounded 15 civilians, while subsequent attacks by the Russians injured 13 more, including a teenage girl and her family members from the Nikopol District. In the latter instance, Russian forces targeted the family’s home with a drone.
In the Sumy Oblast, Russian military shelling injured 13 civilians, many of whom are elderly.
Four casualties were reported in both the Kherson and Donetsk Oblasts, where Russian forces attacked using drones, artillery, and aerial bombs. The daily report for the Kherson Oblast included a nurse and a female pensioner who had been injured in the regional centre by a Russian artillery strike days earlier.
Three civilians sustained injuries due to Russian attacks in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and two others – a mother and a teenager -were injured in the Kharkiv Oblast.
To provide background, on 10 June, Russians killed two civilians in Ukraine, on 9 June, they killed nine civilians, on 8 June, Russians killed ten civilians.
The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine stated that in May 2026, more civilians were killed or injured in Ukraine as a result of Russia’s war than in any other month since the start of the full-scale invasion. The mission verified the deaths of at least 274 people and the injuries of 1,763 others over the month.
The organisation stated that the primary reason for the high number of casualties last month was the use of powerful weapons by Russian forces in urban areas, which repeatedly killed and injured dozens of people. For example, on 5 May, a Russian attack using aerial bombs in Zaporizhzhia killed 12 civilians and injured 42 others. On May 14, a Russian missile struck an apartment building in Kyiv, killing 24 people.
Additionally, the intensification of hostilities contributed to the civilian losses. The UN noted that in previous years, the number of casualties consistently rose during the spring and summer months. This trend was repeated in 2026, but the loss of life increased significantly.
