Russian shelling killed six adults and a child in Ukraine on 30 August

As a result of shelling by the Russian military over the 24 hours of 30 August in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia Regions (Oblasts), seven civilians were killed, and at least 37 more were injured, in particular in the Kharkiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kyiv Oblasts, and in Kyiv, according to reports of the National Police of Ukraine.

The victims of the Russian strikes on 30 August were:

• four adults and a child in the Donetsk Oblast;
• an elderly couple in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

At least 14 more civilians were injured in the Kherson Oblast, and two more people sought hospital treatment after suffering injuries from Russian shelling days earlier.

Six people sustained injuries on 30 August due to Russian strikes in the Donetsk Oblast. Four civilians were injured as a result of Russian shelling in each of the Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv Oblasts, and three more in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Two civilians were injured the previous day in the Kyiv Oblast, which has been under Russian attacks for five days in a row, as has the capital, where there were also two victims. About 1,500 drones have been launched over the past four days, with more than half of them being jet-powered.

Meanwhile, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) stated in its monthly report that at least 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 injured in Ukraine in July 2026, a 30 per cent increase compared to June 2026 (298 killed; 2,041 injured). It is the highest monthly death toll since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, UN human rights experts have said.

In other news, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin he must move away from endless war towards an end to the war. Every day of war, he said, set humanity back, whereas every step taken towards peace filled humanity with new hope and enthusiasm. Mr. Modi was speaking in Kyrgyzstan, where the two leaders are attending a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

Ukrainian experts point out that countries, including China, Greece, North Korea, Hungary, Slovakia, Iran, and Brazil, assist Moscow in killing Ukrainians in its war against Ukraine by funding the Russian budget through trade.

Human rights organisations and Ukrainian authorities emphasise that structural economic pressure remains a key tool to halt such atrocities. They urge every nation and individual government worldwide to strictly enforce global sanctions, close existing regulatory loopholes, and completely sever remaining commercial and technological ties with the Russian Federation. Civil society groups stress that any continued cooperation by foreign businesses directly contributes to the resources Moscow uses to sustain its ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine.
