Law enforcement investigates 19 cases of journalists killed by Russians during full-scale invasion
Law enforcement officers are investigating 19 cases of journalists killed by Russians on the territory of Ukraine during the full-scale invasion, according to the information from the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine regarding the status of investigations into the murders of journalists who died in the line of duty or as civilian victims of shelling. Institute of Mass Information, a non-profit organization that documents journalists’ rights violations and press freedom, reports.

Another one – under part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code – “Excess of power or authority by a military officer” concerns the murder of Dilerbek Shakirov.
The criminal proceedings regarding the death of Kharkiv photographer and video blogger Igor Hudenko, initiated under Article 115 of the Criminal Code, have been closed, as it was established that he died of natural causes.
According to IMI, as of October 2023, 67 journalists have been killed since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 10 of them in the line of duty.
Russian occupying forces have committed 536 crimes against the media and journalists in Ukraine.
