Court in Chechnya rules that Stanislav Klykh undergo psychiatric examination
Two days ago, the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic ruled that Stanislav Klykh undergo outpatient expert forensic psychiatric examination.
This was announced by his lawyer Marina Dubrovina, the Human Rights Information Center correspondent reports.
“January 13-14 this year, Stanislav behaved very aggressively at the court hearings. He overturned the benches. He did not react to the comments of lawyers and the court. He was shouting and swearing. So a further judicial inquiry is impossible in such a condition,” the lawyer said.
The examination will be held at the psychoneurologic dispensary in Grozny. The doctors need to determine whether Klykh is suffering from mental disorders, and if so, whether he can take part in further trials.
According to Dubrovina, Klykh was not on file with a drug therapist or a psychiatrist before his arrest in August 2014. According to his parents, Stanislav has had no mental health problems.
The lawyers of the Ukrainian resident say that the hearing will be postponed for two weeks because of the examination and hopes for an early settlement of this incident.
“The automatic audio record-keeping of the trial has been introduced at the Supreme Court of Chechnya in 2016. Accordingly, all his remarks are part of the trial. If Stanislav is recognized healthy, the court will have to take measures because of disruption of two hearings. If he is recognized not healthy, the part of the record will be eliminated,” the lawyer said.
Earlier, the defense of Klykh said that he had been tortured during the first months after his arrest.
As reported, UNSO leader Mykola Karpyuk was detained by Russian security services in Chernihiv region on March 21, 2014 and taken to Russia. Journalist Stanislav Klykh was arrested in the Russian city of Orel on August 11, 2014. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation accuses them of killing Russian soldiers and establishment of the gang during the war in Chechnya in 1994-1995.
