Putin’s attack after Trump call shows ‘complete disregard’ for US – MFA of Ukraine (updated)
Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, stated that the large-scale combined Russian attack on Ukraine on the night of 3-4 July 2025, which took place after a telephone conversation between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, demonstrates the Kremlin’s disrespect towards the United States.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry released a statement by the Minister.
Sybiha noted that the Russian attack on the night of July 3-4 was “one of the worst so far”.
“Hundreds of Russian drones and ballistic missiles rained down on the Ukrainian capital. Right after Putin spoke with President Trump, he [Accused by the International Criminal Court of war crimes, Vladimir Putin] did it on purpose. Enough of waiting! Putin clearly shows his complete disregard for the United States and everyone who has called for an end to the war,” Sibiha said.

The Minister called for the international community to punish Russia with “the toughest sanctions” and to provide Ukraine with all the necessary defence assets.
“Wrong decisions can only encourage the aggressor to escalate terror. Every criminal regime in the world is now watching closely Putin’s actions and responses to them. If he gets away with all of this, everyone will get a very clear message. Stop waiting for peace. Act to achieve peace. Peace through strength,” Sybiha said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned one of the war’s most “demonstratively significant and cynical” attacks, describing it as a “harsh, sleepless night.”
Noting that it came directly after Putin’s call with Trump, Zelenskyy added in a post in social media: “Russia once again demonstrates that it does not intend to end the war”.
He called on international allies – particularly the US – to increase pressure on Moscow and impose greater sanctions.
According to Ukrainian air defence, Russia fired a record 550 drones and 11 missiles during a long night of bombardment.
Emergency workers reported they found a deceased person while dealing with the aftermath. They retrieved a body from under the rubble of a building destroyed by the large-scale Russian attack.
Local authorities reported that at least 26 people were wounded in the attacks on the Ukrainian capital, with railway infrastructure damaged and schools, buildings, and cars set ablaze across the capital. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service (SES) provided assistance to 39 people.
Emergency workers have already removed more than 300 tonnes of construction debris.
On July 5, Kyiv Mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, stated the death toll from the Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital on July 4 had risen to two. He confirmed that a 25-year-old man died in a Kyiv hospital on 5 July after being in a critical condition.
On July 8, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv City Military Administration, another injured person in that attack on Kyiv died in the hospital, bringing the death toll from that attack to three people.
Dog handlers, 512 emergency workers, 135 units of SES equipment, including a fire-fighting robot, police, Red Cross volunteers, and other city services are working at the strike scenes.
As it is known, 24 hours after the end of the inauguration of the US president Donald Trump, the war in Ukraine has not ended. His further attempts to set an unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine also failed.
