Ghana and Sierra Leone сall on Putin to halt Russian aggression as it damages Africa
Ghana and Sierra Leone called on Russia to stop the war in Ukraine as it harms African countries.
The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament in Ghana, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Sierra Leone, Mohamed Bangura, made the above statement at the Second Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform on October 24, 2023.
Amoako said that before peace can be achieved, there must be justice. According to him, the Parliament’s speaker Alban Bagbin is seeking justice to prevail for Ukrainians and Crimeans.
“[Bagbin] is therefore asking and imploring Russia to stop the impunity of war, invasion, and occupation of Crimea and other Ukrainian territories in order to achieve absolute peace in Ukraine and even Russia itself,” he said.
Amoako pointed out that Russia’s war against Ukraine and the occupation of Ukrainian territory has brought “untold hardships, including even hunger,” to other parts of the world, including his country.
President Putin and Russia, please, enough is enough. Stop the impunity of war and the occupation in Crimea, since the effects are felt beyond the region. Let peace and tranquillity prevail in the region and the world at large.

Bangura declared that actions of Russia have affected some states in West Africa through the activities of the Wagner Group, which influences military governments.
“We are a member state of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The activities of Russia have today affected some members of the state in West Africa. We have the presence of the Wagner Group in Africa. Five out of 16 countries are currently being ruled by military governments, and they portray the ideas of Russia,” he noted.
Bangura assured the audience that his country would continue to stand behind Ukraine, and he expressed the hope that after the war, at the next conference, delegates will discuss the rebuilding of Ukraine.
Trade ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) have condemned Russian attacks on Ukrainian grain infrastructure in a joint statement on Sunday, 29 October. They also called for fair competition between Russia and China.
In October 2023, the UK released intelligence that Russia intends to install sea mines in the path of civilian vessels carrying Ukrainian grain for export.
Experts at the international conference Crimea Global called for a new global security paradigm against the Russian threat.
