FSB detained man in occupied Yevpatoriia over support for Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram
Russia’s FSB stated that it has detained a local man born in 2002 in occupied Yevpatoriia, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, on suspicion of making public calls for extremist activity in Telegram posts, pro-Russian Telegram channels reported.
According to Russian security officials, the man posted comments on Telegram that they described as “Russophobic”. He allegedly made insulting remarks about the Russian population, expressed support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and said that he was waiting for their arrival. In a video circulated by Russian propagandists, the detainee said that he had initially posted a comment in support of a Telegram channel. He then began following its posts and leaving comments in support of the AFU.
“While I was posting these comments, FSB officers detained me,” the man said.
According to Russian security officials, criminal proceedings have been initiated against the Yevpatoriia resident. He could face up to five years in prison. The officials did not specify which comments had prompted his detention.
ZMINA previously reported that a court in occupied Yalta had handed down the first sentence under a legal provision on “activities against Russia’s security” over comments posted online.
