Russian military strikes killed nine civilians in Ukraine on 4 June
Russian military strikes on 4 June killed nine civilians in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Chernihiv and Sumy regions and injured at least 75 others, including in the Kharkiv Oblast, according to Ukraine’s National Police.

- Three people in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast;
- Two people in the Sumy region;
- A woman in Zaporizhzhia;
- An elderly man in the Chernihiv Oblast;
- An elderly man in Kherson who was killed when Russian forces dropped explosives from a drone.
Dozens of civilians were also injured. Nineteen people were wounded in Russian strikes in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast and another 19 in the Kherson Oblast. The casualties in Zaporizhzhia included a 10-year-old boy, while those injured in the Kherson region included a 12-year-old boy, two medical workers and two police officers.
The daily casualty report for the Kherson Oblast also included five people, among them a Kherson doctor, who had been injured in Russian attacks in previous days.
In the Sumy Oblast, at least 15 residents were injured in Russian strikes, including five children, among them a one-year-old and a two-year-old child. In the Kharkiv Oblast, eight adults and two children were wounded in Russian attacks.
Russian strikes injured seven civilians in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on 4 June.
No casualties were reported in the Donetsk Oblast on 4 June, but more than 1,300 Russian strikes caused extensive destruction.
Russian strikes killed 16 civilians across Ukraine on 3 June.
To provide background, on 4 June 2026, accused of war crimes by the ICC, Vladimir Putin rejected the Ukrainian president’s open-letter proposal to meet in person and negotiate peace, choosing instead to continue the war.
Ukrainian experts point out that countries, including China, the United States of America, North Korea, Hungary, Slovakia, Iran, and Brazil, assist Moscow in killing Ukrainians in its war against Ukraine by funding the Russian budget through trade.

The Financial Times reported that the Aughinish Alumina plant, owned by the Russian company Rusal, continues to operate in Ireland and legally exports alumina to Russia, where the raw material could be used in military production. The facility itself is not subject to European Union sanctions, although its owner, Rusal, was founded by Oleg Deripaska, who has been sanctioned by the United States, the EU and the United Kingdom.
Human rights organisations and Ukrainian authorities emphasise that structural economic pressure remains a key tool to halt such atrocities. They urge every nation and individual government worldwide to strictly enforce global sanctions, close existing regulatory loopholes, and completely sever remaining commercial and technological ties with the Russian Federation. Civil society groups stress that any continued cooperation by foreign businesses directly contributes to the resources Moscow uses to sustain its ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine.
