The Kyiv Administrative Court of Appeals found unlawful the decision of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine to abolish the “gender quota” established by the Law of Ukraine “On Local Elections.”

The press service of the “Association ‘Self Help’” reported this to the Radio Liberty, recalling that September 23 the Central Election Commission adopted the resolution, according to which the non-compliance with “gender quota” can’t be reason to deny candidates registration to participate in the local elections on October 25.

September 28, the “Association ‘Self Help’” lodged a lawsuit at the Kyiv Administrative Court of Appeals demanding to find this decision unlawful.

As a reminder, July 14, 2015, the Parliament of Ukraine passed the new law on local elections. According to the law, the list of political parties standing for the election must contain at least 30% of women.
