The all-Ukrainian awareness-raising campaign Fight for Right has been launched in Odesa. Within its framework, the persons with disabilities, in particular, the visually impaired persons, will fight against the elements of nature and human stereotypes.

Primarily, the visually impaired extreme sports lovers dove into the water to try to struggle the elements, the Human Rights Information Centre correspondent reports.

Diving is only the first test for the visually impaired persons from different corners of Ukraine – Odesa, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv and other regions. The organizer of the awareness-raising campaign, the Vice President of NGO “Generation of Successful Action” Yulia Sachuk says it will be even more interesting further.

The struggle of the visually impaired persons with the elements is very symbolic. They daily overcome the obstacles of physical barriers, informational inaccessibility, human stereotypes towards persons with disabilities. Today’s diving is just another challenge that we have tried to overcome,” Yulia Sachuk said.

The main objective of the awareness-raising campaign Fight for Right is to draw public attention to the barrier environment and to continue to destroy the stereotypes of people with and without disabilities that the visually impaired persons are full members of society who can not just take care of themselves, but also to live to the fullest.

Yulia Sachuk noticed that this campaign is inclusive, so people without disabilities are also involved in the planned activities.

We do not want to distinguish: create conditions so that visually impaired persons could feel comfortable while diving or working out at the gym conditions. The conditions must be equal for all so that any person could come to the diving club, gym or ski hills, without experiencing barrier restrictions,” Sachuk said.
