Ukraine will complement the claim in the International Court of Justice of the United Nations with information about the shelling in Avdiivka.

As reported by Ukrinform news agency, this was stated by Pavlo Klimkin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, during the briefing in Mariupol.

According to him, pro-Russian militants and active armed forces of Russia have deliberately intensified shelling in Donbas to provoke a humanitarian catastrophe.

“What is happening near Avdiivka in last few days – is a crime. The fact that there are (on the territory of Ukraine – ed.) active armed forces of Russia, militants, weapons and endless support with supply of ammunition – is a crime. And we will prove it in the International Court of Justice of the UN, we have submitted the appropriate claim”, – he said.

“The fact of shelling of civilian infrastructure – is a serious crime. But, what is happening today and right now, when due to the deliberate escalation of the situation we cannot begin the repair of electrical and heating systems – is a deliberate instigation of a humanitarian catastrophe”, – said Klimkin.

He does not exclude the possibility that these events are accidentally happening right now, when strong frosts began in the region.

“25 thousand people are left without electricity and more than 15 thousand people are left without heating at such temperature”, – said Klimkin.

He noted that not allowing repair the communal infrastructure, condemning people to freezing, is a war crime. Klimkin also said that due to the events in Donbas Ukraine appealed to various international institutions, in particular, the OSCE and the United Nations Security Council.

As a reminder, on January 30, due to the shelling Avdiivka was left without electricity, water, heat and coke plant was de-energized.

On Tuesday afternoon, Pavlo Zhebrivskyi, the Head of the Donetsk regional military and civil administration, reported to the President Petro Poroshenko about the first signs of ceasefire in Avdiivka area.
