Today at the court hearing on the “Chiygoz case”, the Kremlin-controlled Supreme Court of Crimea rejected a number of defense’s motions on attaching additional documents to the case files.

As reported by lawyer Nikolai Polozov to the Krym.Realiyi after the first part of the court hearing.

“The defense announced a number of motions on the inclusion of the report made by a group of international human rights organizations on the events of February 26, which was received on request. The court refused to attach them. A motion requesting to attach the protocol of Refat Chubarov’s (Head of the Crimean Tatar people – KR) interrogation was filed. The court denied the motion. In addition, the court to demand from the Crimean Prosecutor’s Office to provide information about the ban on entry for Chubarov, which was announced by Prosecutor Poklonskaya in 2014”, – Polozov said.

According to the lawyer, Russian court has attached one document to the case.

“The defense announced the attachment of the letter of the Consulate General of Ukraine, the answer of the lawyer’s request, the written document of Refat Chubarov. In which provision on the Mejlis is attached, as well as a note on the powers of Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis. And it is indicated that Akhtem Chiygoz had no special authority at that time. It was assigned to Zaur Smirnov”, – Polozov said.

Once again, Chiygoz challenged the court in connection with the “obvious interest in the outcome of the case”. The decision on the challenge must be announced in the second part of the court hearing.

Akhtem Chiygoz was detained in January 2015 for participating in a rally in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine in front of the Crimean parliament on February 26, 2014. Then protestors opposed the pro-Russian activists, including those from the Russian Unity. Russian authorities of the annexed Crimea accuse Chiygoz of organizing mass riots.

Russian court is considering “Chiygoz case” as part of “February 26 case”, which on July 20, during a closed court hearing was divided into two different cases: a separate case on Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Akhtem Chiygoz and separate case of other defendants – Ali Asanov and Mustafa Degermendzhi.
