Russian strike on Odesa kills three, injures 25 including six children

Russian strikes on Odesa killed at least three and injured 25 people, including children and a pregnant woman, on the night of January 26-27, 2026, according to local authorities. 

 

“The body of a man was found under the rubble during search and rescue operations at the site of the strike in the Peresypskyi district,” Serhii Lysak, head of Odesa City Military Administration, said

Lysak expressed his condolences to the man’s family.

Anton Shalyhailo, deputy head of the Odesa Oblast Military Administration, told the national joint 24/7 newscast that one of those killed was an elderly man. Six children are among those injured. Nine people have been taken to the hospital, with one person in serious condition.

He also said that Russian forces had deliberately targeted civilian residential areas. Shalyhailo added that almost 50 apartment buildings were damaged, with 10 sustaining significant damage.

Later, Lysak reported that emergency workers recovered the body of another man and the body of a woman while clearing the rubble of a destroyed building on Prokhorivska Street.

Russian forces have struck a power facility in Odesa for a second time, causing “colossal” destruction, according to the press service of DTEK Odesa Grids.

“The destruction is colossal, and repair work will require a significant amount of time to restore the equipment to an operational state,” the company stated in a press release.

In addition to the strike, an emergency malfunction occurred at power facilities in the Odesa District. Customers in the Odesa District — specifically parts of the Peresypskyi and Khadzhybeyskyi districts of the city — are temporarily without electricity. Engineers are currently working to mitigate the consequences.

Within 24 hours of taking office, U.S. President Donald Trump has not secured an end to Russia’s war as he promised. Furthermore, numerous Ukrainian and international experts point out that the U.S., as a guarantor state under the Budapest Memorandum, is pressuring Kyiv into capitulation.

Ukrainian experts also point out that countries, including ChinaNorth KoreaHungarySlovakiaIran, and Brazil, assist Moscow in killing Ukrainians in its war against Ukraine by funding the Russian budget through trade.
