Russia launched over 3,000 drones, 70 missiles at Ukraine in a week, killing 52 – Zelenskyy
Over the course of the week, Russian forces launched more than 3,170 strike drones, over 1,300 guided aerial bombs, and 74 missiles of various types against Ukraine, the majority of which were ballistic. The attacks killed 52 people, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“There were many strikes on residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure. Unfortunately, as a result of the shelling over the past week, 52 people were killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 346 people were injured, including 22 children,” the head of state wrote on Facebook.
The president emphasized the need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and the importance of international support, particularly additional contributions to anti-ballistic missile defense.
According to Zelenskyy, Europe must work together to protect against ballistic threats.
A day earlier, in his evening address, Zelenskyy stated that the missiles Russia used to kill 24 people in Kyiv on the night of May 14 – including three children – could not have been built without components from companies in Europe, Japan, and the United States.
To provide background, according to data from the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine as of mid-May this year, 815 civilians fell victim to Russian shelling in Ukraine over the past four months, while another 1,404 sustained various injuries. This is higher than during the same period in any year since the full-scale Russian invasion began.
