Most members of the Mejlis were not able to leave for the World Congress of Crimean Tatars, which took place in Ankara on August 1-2.

According to the statement of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people on Facebook, on August 31, the members of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people intended to go abroad to participate in the Second World Congress of the Crimean Tatars.

However, one of the leaders of the Mejlis was informed that he had to appear for questioning at the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Crimea on August 1. As a result, most of the Mejlis members were denied the opportunity to participate in the Second World Congress of the Crimean Tatars.

As a reminder, first deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Nariman Dzhelyal, deputy chairman of the Mejlis Ilmi Umerov, head of the Central Election Commission of Kurultai Zair Smedlyaev, and head of the Simferopol Regional Mejlis Lemmar Yunusov were issued a summons for questioning on August 1, 2015.

As reported, February 26, 2014, the Russian-backed forces organized the rally asking the Crimean parliament to appeal to Vladimir Putin on the need to join Crimea to Russia. In response, the Crimean Tatars gathered even more people and pushed the pro-Russian activists aside from the Crimean parliament building. As a result, two people were killed in clashes. The Investigative Committee of Russia opened the criminal case over the fact. According to the leader of the Crimean Tatar People Mustafa Dzhemilev, the actions of the occupation authorities were absurd in this case, as the rally has taken place before Crimea was declared to be the part of Russia.
