Ukrainian citizen, who recently went to the temporarily occupied territories to bury his parents and was arrested by militants in Donbas, was not a security officer.

Adviser to the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, head of the Center for Release of Captives Yuri Tandyt said this in a commentary to an Ukrinform correspondent.

He [Ukrainian citizen, who left for temporarily occupied territory] was a civilian. Over the past few weeks, several more people have been taken captive. A couple went to meet their friends in Donetsk, and one person of the couple is linked with security forces. However, there are other cases when ordinary people go [to temporarily occupied territory], are detained and accused of absurd crimes they did not commit,” Tandyt said.

When asked by Ukrinform correspondent why militants were interested in civil person, Tandyt did not give a direct answer, but hinted that some of the allegations made by the militants were unfounded.

There are certain charges brought against him. For example, one of those arrested has been recently working in judicial system. He is also considered by the militants as a spy. It is complete nonsense, as well as charges that Ukrainian security forces allegedly recruit children,” Tandyt said.
