One civilian died from shelling of Avdiivka – police

One civilian was killed and two others were injured as a result of the shelling of residential areas of Avdiivka.

As reported by the National Police Department in the Donetsk region.

In the evening of February 16, militants shelled residential flats on Gagarin Street and Central Avenue, as reported by the Police Department.

One of the shells damaged the apartment. And one of the bridging in one of the apartment buildings on Gagarin Street has collapsed.

“Debris removal is continuing. There is one casualty – man, born in 1973, died from shrapnel wounds”, – said the police.

“One resident of Avdiivka died as a result of shelling… Details on this fact were included in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations on the grounds of a crime under part 3 Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (act of terrorism)”, – reported the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office.

Pavlo Zhebrivskyi, the Head of the Donetsk regional military and civil administration, told about suffered residents of Avdiivka on his Facebook page.

“In another house on the same Gagarin Street, a shell hit the apartment on 4th floor. Heating system was torn from the explosion. Hot water under the pressure burst into the apartment. As a result, a 76-year old resident of apartment received significant burns. Ambulance took him to a burn center of Dnipropetrovsk”, – he wrote.

Another shell flew through the window of the shop on ground floor on Gagarin Street 12. Shell flew across the room and hit the wall. Four girls were in a trading hall at that moment. None of them was hurt.

On the eve of Thursday, the headquarters of ATO reported about the deaths of three Ukrainian soldiers in the east of Ukraine.

On February 16, shelling continued in Avdiivka, Kamianka, Pisky, Zaitseve and Verkhnyotoretske.

In the direction of Lugansk, illegal armed formation fired at Krymsk, Lobacheve and Novooleksandrivka.

In the direction of Mariupol, Ukrainian positions were shelled in Shyrokyne, Marinka, Novoselivka, Vodyane, Lebedynske, Pavlopil and Hnutove.

As a reminder, on January 29, conflict between government forces and illegal armed groups of Donetsk escalated in the Avdiivka area. Militants were shelling both the industrial zone with positions of the Ukrainian military and residential houses in the city.

On February 1, periods of ceasefire began, however attempts to restore the power supply in the frontline city until February 5 were unsuccessful.

On February 2, militants shelled humanitarian aid center in Avdiivka and intensified shelling of Marinka and Krasnohorivka.

As of February 4, more than 150 houses and buildings were damaged or destroyed.
