FSB has detained a resident of occupied Kerch for alledgely “justifying terrorism”
Russian security forces have detained a 53-year-old man in Kerch, in temporarily occupied Crimea, accusing him of allegedly “justifying terrorism” online, local pro-Russian media reported.
Illustrative photo. Source: Russian mediaThe FSB alleges that the man posted comments supporting Ukraine on a messaging app and called for strikes on Russian military facilities. The FSB also claims that he compared Russian troops to fascists and sent footage of Russian air defence systems in operation to Ukrainian Telegram channels.
In 2023, the man was convicted under Article 280(2) of Russia’s Criminal Code for “public calls for extremist activities” and sentenced to one year in prison. He now faces up to seven years in prison on the new charge.
The Kerch resident’s detention and prosecution come amid Russia’s temporary occupation of Crimea, where Russian security agencies use Russian criminal law against residents of the peninsula.

ZMINA also reported that the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced a woman from occupied Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, to six years in a general-regime penal colony for comments she posted on Telegram.
As of 24 August 2026, 1,774 cases involving administrative penalties for the so-called offence of “discrediting” Russia’s armed forces had been recorded in temporarily occupied Crimea.
