Ukrainian President Zelenskyy asks Trump: What will you do if Putin doesn’t stop?
In response to Donald Trump’s claim that he would quickly end the war in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has presented a counter-question: what would Trump do if the Russian president did not stop after defeating Ukraine?
According to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, Zelenskyy asked that at a meeting with the International Media Council in Davos on January 17, 2024.
On the previous day, after Donald Trump’s victory during the Republican primaries in Iowa, the former U.S. President said: “I would bring Putin and Zelenskyy to the table and end the war…”.
“I haven’t seen this video, but I understand that there was some kind of conference, and he said that if Putin doesn’t stop, he [Trump – ed.] will send more weapons to Ukraine. If Ukraine doesn’t stop, he will take away some [weapon] stocks [from it]… Even if Trump doesn’t support us, we can assume that we will not agree to give up our territories, then Donald Trump will stop helping us and Putin, let’s say, will have us occupied after a certain period of time. The question then is, what would Trump do after that, if Russia occupied a NATO country after Ukraine?” Zelenskyy asked.
According to Zelenskyy, the question is this: “even if Trump does not support us, imagine that we do not agree to give up our territories, then Donald Trump will stop helping us and Putin, say, will occupy us after a certain period.”
“Then the question is, what will Trump do after this, if after Ukraine Russia occupies a NATO country?” the president asked.
“That is, he decided that if you do not freeze the conflict, if we allow Putin to enter Ukraine completely, then he will stop. But Putin will not stop. So what will Donald Trump do in the United States after that? Since in this case it means that Europe lost and lost the largest and most powerful army in Europe because it lost Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
Previously, Zelenskyy called on to Trump provide his specific “peace plan” for Ukraine, if he has one. Zelenskyy also said Ukraine is not ready to give up its territories.
By way of background, during the genocidal war against the Ukrainian people, the totalitarian Russian Federation is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Russia unlawfully deports Ukrainian children to its territory. According to the National Information Bureau, as of August 2023, it has deported or brought out 19,546 children from Ukraine. This number includes only children whose names and circumstances of deportation are known. Ukrainian authorities state that the number of deported children is unknown because they cannot access the temporarily occupied territories. In total, 386 children have been successfully returned.
As for now, it is impossible to determine the exact number of casualties, as Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and the representatives of the ICC have no access to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The full-scale invasion by Russia forced 6.1 million Ukrainians to flee abroad. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) estimates that about 8 million have been internally displaced.
Dzhapar is also convinced that even when Putin loses his war, business with Russia “should be impossible” until the perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes in Ukraine.
