Six people killed, others injured and trapped under rubble following Russian air strikes on Sloviansk, Donetsk Oblast
Six people were killed and 15 injured following Russian air and drone strikes on Sloviansk, the Donetsk Region (Oblast), on 17 October, the head of the Sloviansk city military administration, Vadym Liakh, and the State Emergency Service reported (SES). More than 20 houses were also damaged.

“Sloviansk: three people were killed and two more injured as a result of a Russian air strike. Yesterday, Russian forces dropped four aerial bombs on the city’s private residential sector,” SES reported.
Emergency reporters said they had pulled the body of one of the dead from under the rubble.

Fires broke out at three locations. Rescuers localised the fires, but further extinguishing had to be suspended due to the security situation.
Liakh specified that a total of six people were killed and a further 15 had been injured in the city on 18 October.

Overall, Russian forces attacked Sloviansk with various types of weapons over the 24 hours, he said.
“In some cases, FPV strikes also proved fatal,” he added.
“As of the morning, several bodies of residents remain under the rubble of houses destroyed by aerial bombs. Overnight, clearing operations were suspended due to the security situation. They were resumed first thing in the morning,” Liakh said.
On Saturday, 17 October, Liakh reported that one person was killed and a further 10 injured following a FAB-250 bomb strike by Russian forces on high-rise buildings in a residential neighbourhood of Sloviansk in the Donetsk Oblast.
To provide background, over the week leading up to 11 October, Russian forces used about 1,450 guided aerial bombs, 75 missiles of various types and over 1,640 attack drones against Ukraine, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. About 60% of the drones were jet-powered.
US president Donald Trump has not secured an end to Russia’s war within 24 hours of taking office, as he had promised. Furthermore, numerous Ukrainian and international experts point out that the US, as a guarantor state under the Budapest Memorandum, is pressuring Kyiv into capitulation.
