Activists bring straitjacket for Ukraine’s Prosecutor General
The activists demand that the Prosecutor General fulfill the conditions necessary to get visa-free regime for Ukraine.
As the Ukrayinska Pravda (Ukrainian Truth) Ukrainian media outlet reports, the activists, in particular, demanded to replace four members of the competition commission for election of the anti-corruption prosecutors.
Picketing was the response to the letter of the Prosecutor General to Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin. After the Foreign Ministry had required replacing the commission members at the National Council of Reforms, Shokin noted in his letter that he saw “the signs of a criminal offense aimed at undermining the authority of the public bodies” in such actions of the Foreign Ministry.
The activists came to the premises of the Prosecutor General’s Office together with Avtomaidan members and volunteer doctor Armen Nikohosian on his ambulance car and took a straitjacket to hand it over to Shokin.
“Shokin has long been a political figure dependent on the president. The rule tries to gain control over the future anti-corruption prosecutor’s office by his hands, the hands of individual members of the competition committee, the MPs at any costs,” head of the parliamentary committee for combating corruption Yehor Sobolev said.
As a reminder, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin refused to implement the provisions of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalization and announced his intention in the letter to the Foreign Minister. The Prosecutor General has made a stand for the four prosecutors appointed on his quota to the commission for selecting the candidates for the administrative positions in the special anti-corruption prosecutor’s office.
