Today, the District Administrative Court of Kyiv sustained the claim of the Justice Ministry of Ukraine in full.

As stated on the Court’s website, the Court concluded the trial on the lawsuit of the Justice Ministry of Ukraine on banning the activities of the Communist Party of Ukraine.

The Court sustained the claim of the Justice Ministry of Ukraine in full, having banned the activities of the Communist Party of Ukraine,” reads the statement.

The case was considered with the participation of the third party – the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.

As a reminder, the Law of Ukraine “On condemnation of the Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and prohibition of propaganda of their symbols” came into force on May 21.

In July, Justice Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko said that he had issued three decrees, stipulating that the Communist Party of Ukraine did not comply with the law.

Human rights defender Volodymyr Yavorsky noted that the Communist Party of Ukraine had good chances of restoring its activities through the European Court of Human Rights. To avoid this, the Ukrainian government should have banned the Communist Party through punishment for specific actions, for example, for the involvement of some persons in the harassment of citizens or organization of the actions in violation of the territorial integrity of the state.
