The human rights mission of the Council of Europe (CoE) may attend the court hearing over the “case of February 26” if it receives the court’s permit.

This was stated by “prosecutor of Crimea” Natalia Poklonska, the Center for Investigative Journalism reports.

She added that she would assist the monitors in getting the permit.

I am interested in the fact that Mr. Stoudmann [Head of Mission Gerard Stoudmann] meets with Chiygoz [Akhtem Chiygoz, involved in the case]. Currently, Chiygoz is within jurisdiction of the court and the permit for the meeting should be obtained directly from a judge who considers the criminal case. I will personally file a motion for you to see him,” she said at the meeting with representatives of the Council of Europe.

The mission was invited to the court hearing by Nikolai Polozov, the lawyer of Akhtem Chiygoz.

As a reminder, January 15, the prosecutor read the indictment to the defendants – Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Akhtem Chiygoz and Crimean Tatar activists Ali Asanov and Mustafa Degermendzhy.

They are accused of participating in mass events near the building of the Crimean parliament on February 26, 2014. The clash occurred between the supporters and opponents of the Russian government, two protesters were killed.
