Roman Zavorotny, the suspect for providing arms from the Interior Ministry depots to the hired thugs during the Euromaidan protests, was released from custody.

This is reported by the Ukrayinska Pravda (Ukrainian Truth) online newspaper with reference to Hromadske.tv TV channel.

He came out of the remand prison at midnight. His relatives and lawyers waited for him near the entrance. They refused to give any commentaries,” reads the article.

As reported, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine sent the indictment in this case to the Sviatoshynsky District Court of Kyiv three months ago. The district court had to consider that case, not to redirect it to the Kyiv’s Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal delayed the consideration of the case, defining its jurisdiction over nearly three months.

March 26 was the last day when judge of the Sviatoshynsky District Court of Kyiv Viktoria Zhmut could consider the case and extend the detention of the suspect in custody. However, she refused to do it on Saturday, although the mere fact that one day had been left before the end of the detention period was the direct reason for the rapid appointment of the court hearing and ensuring the presence of all the trial participants.

According to Head of the Special Investigations Department at the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine Serhiy Horbatiuk, the Prosecutor General’s Office is going to appeal to the High Qualification Commission of Judges with the requirement to hold responsible the judges delaying the case of one of the key suspects for providing the arms to the hired thugs during the Euromaidan protests.

As reported, the civilians were given hundreds of firearms and dozens of thousands of rounds of ammunition from the Interior Ministry depots during the Euromaidan protests in 2014.
