The dark-skinned migrants from Donbas who have a foreigner status will find an apartment easier than the dark-skinned people having the status of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Vitaliy Yurasov, the social scientist from the Sociologist Research Bureau, said this in an interview with Radio Liberty.

The displaced persons from Donbas and Crimea constantly have problems with finding apartment and employment. For example, we interviewed the migrants having different statuses, which they are discriminated for. The dark-skinned migrants from Donbas told that it is easier to find an apartment if they have a foreigner status rather than the status of displaced person,” Yurasov said.

According to the expert, the majority of respondents, namely 76 percent, believe that it is necessary to help the displaced people from Donbas and Crimea and do not agree that the rights and freedoms of migrants should be limited. Only 24% disagreed with that.

The sociologist also noted that any Bureau’s interview with displaced persons was oversaturated with stories of experiencing discrimination.
