Ukrainian Ombudsperson’s Office transfers another 23 convicts from ‘DPR’ territory

Another group of sentenced persons was transferred from the temporarily uncontrolled territory of Ukraine at the initiative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.

In particular, another 23 convicts (including one woman), who served sentences in prisons in the so-called “DPR” and wished to be moved for further serving sentence on the government-controlled territory of Ukraine, were transferred, the press service of the Ombudsperson’s Office reports

As of today, 133 convicted persons were transferred from the temporarily uncontrolled territory of Ukraine.

As reported, July 2015, the transfer of the first nine Ukrainian prisoners took place. During the second transfer, which took place on August 5, 2015, twenty prisoners were taken from the Donetsk detention center. December 8, 2015, Valeria Lutkovska conducted the third successful operation to transfer twenty convicted persons serving sentence in the Yenakiyeve penal colony No. 52. Subsequently, on February 5, 2016, eighteen inmates from various institutions of the penitentiary system of Donetsk region returned to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine. April 20, 2016, another twenty prisoners were transferred. July 21, 23 convicts, who were serving sentences in prisons in the territory of the so-called “DPR”, were transferred to the territory controlled by Ukraine.
