23 convicts transferred from occupied territory to government-controlled area

Twenty-three convicts, who were serving sentences in prisons in the territory of the so-called “DPR”, have been transferred today to the territory controlled by Ukraine, at the initiative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.

This was reported by the press service of the Ombudsperson.

According to the press service, a total of 110 convicted persons, who expressed a desire to serve the sentence in the territory controlled by Ukraine, have been transferred in such a way for the year.

July 2015, the transfer of the first nine Ukrainian prisoners took place. During the second transfer, which took place on August 5, 2015, twenty prisoners were taken from the Donetsk detention center.

December 8, 2015, Valeria Lutkovska conducted the third successful operation to transfer twenty convicted persons serving sentence in the Yenakiyeve penal colony No. 52. Subsequently, on February 5, 2016, eighteen inmates from various institutions of the penitentiary system of Donetsk region returned to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine.

April 20, 2016, another twenty prisoners were transferred.
