Over 10,000 people killed since onset of Donbas conflict – President Poroshenko
More than 10,000 people have been killed and more than 20,000 people have been injured for two years since the onset of the armed conflict in Donbas.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this while delivering the speech at the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul today, UNIAN news agency reports.
“My country has been the aim of the Russian aggression for more than two years. Humanitarian consequences of this aggression amount to more than 10,000 of killed Ukrainians, more than 20,000 wounded and about 1.8 million internally displaced persons,” he said.
According to Poroshenko, the world is once again plagued by violent conflict, social fractures, natural and man-made disasters.
“The universal values of the UN Charter are called into question by the one who committed to defend them. The geopolitical ambitions are put above the principles and norms of the international law, and even above the human life,” the President said.
Earlier, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged the world governments to halve the number of displaced persons until 2030.
