Military police may be established in Ukraine

The military law enforcement units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be reorganized to establish the military police on its basis.

This is stated in the Strategic Defence Bulletin, signed by President Petro Poroshenko.

The expected result is stipulated as follows:

“The general structure and major functions of the military police, including pre-trial investigation into crimes committed by servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, shall be legislatively stipulated. The military police shall be also authorized to conduct search and surveillance activity. The capacity of the military police will be enhanced and its organization structure will be optimized in line with the new structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

Poroshenko signed the decree “On the Decision of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine of May 20, 2016 “On the Strategic Defence Bulletin of Ukraine” on June 6.
