About 330,000 Ukrainians have received temporary shelter in the Russian Federation. The period of temporary stay has been extended until August 1st.

While referring toInterfax,” Ukrayinska Pravda reports that this statement was made by Konstantin Romodanovsky, the head of the Federal Migration Service (FMS) of Russia, during a press conference.

“Around 330,000 have received the status of temporary shelter and more than 170,000 have been granted a temporary residence permit,” he said.

Romodanovsky said that about 1000-1200 Ukrainians are given temporary asylum in Russia every day. However, not everyone who received it will be able to stay in Russia.

The FMS has indicated that the period of temporary stay will continue to be renewed repeatedly for another period of 90 days. This rule applies to all citizens of Ukraine and is not related to refugee status or persons granted temporary asylum, a temporary residence permit, and so on. It was decided that the terms of temporary stay will be extended to August 1st, 2015.

“I hope that no incidents will occur, and that after August 1st (when the current agreement on preferential status expires) the Ukrainian citizens will behave and be subject to the same responsibilities as all citizens of CIS countries,” said Romodanovsky.

Currently the citizens of the CIS may be in Russia for up to 90 days during each half-year (180 days). In case of a violation of this term, administrative measures are applied. According to the Federal Migration Service data, there are more than 2.4 million citizens of Ukraine in Russia.

In a recent report by the Anti-Discrimination Centre (ADC) Memorial, it was stated that the Roma who fled from the ATO to Russia suffer double discrimination as both representatives of the Roma minority and as refugees from Ukraine.
