Ukraine sentences 202 Russian troops for war crimes – the Office of the Prosecutor General
In response to an Ukrinform inquiry, the Office of the Prosecutor General said that 202 Russian servicemen were convicted of war crimes in Ukraine, with 19 of them present during the court hearings.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, 1,012 individuals have been served with suspicion notices under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of the laws and customs of war. Indictments have been sent to court against 742 individuals.
The office further clarified the conviction status: “There are 202 convicted individuals, 19 of whom were physically in the dock.”
The investigation into war crimes committed by Russian military personnel in Bucha and the Bucha District of the Kyiv region is also ongoing. Investigators continue to document these crimes with international partners.
As part of this investigation, suspicion notices have been served on 199 Russian service members, and cases against 151 of them have been referred to court. The court has already issued verdicts against 27 defendants; one of them is serving a 12-year sentence.
As of October 6, 2025, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have registered 191,364 crimes of aggression and war crimes committed by Russian forces since the start of the full-scale invasion. These include violations under Article 438 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (war crimes), Article 437 (crime of aggression), Article 436 (propaganda of war), and Article 442-1 (crimes against humanity).
