Ukraine has received another 1,000 bodies, which Russia claims are those of Ukrainian service members, according to the statement by Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

A line of white International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) semi-trucks travels down a snow-covered road lined with frosted pine trees. Two personnel in white protective suits and face masks walk along the road beside the lead vehicle, which displays an ICRC emblem and humanitarian markings.

“Today [January 29, 2026], repatriation efforts brought 1,000 bodies (remains) of the fallen back to Ukraine, which Russia claims are Ukrainian defenders,” the statement reads.

Ukrainian investigators and experts will now work on identifying the repatriated bodies.

To provide background, on 19 December 2025, 1,003 bodies were brought back to Ukraine, which Moscow claimed belonged to Ukrainian service members.
