Ukrainian judges to pass tests in September
In September, the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine will start testing judges. The overall testing process will last for two years.
Head of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Serhiy Kozyakov said this at the press conference, Ukrinform Ukrainian national news agency reports.
“Forty-six judges of the Supreme Court are the first judges subject to assessment. We have to complete their assessment by the end of September,” he said.
As noted in the Commission, the aim is to check the possibility of judges to administer justice in the courts, where they work. Testing will be held in three stages: written test and practical task, the study of a judge’s profile, and interview with a judge.
Following the Supreme Court’s judges, the judges of high specialized courts and the judges of courts of appeals will pass qualification tests. The initial evaluation of local judges will be carried out according to a separate schedule, including in parallel with judges of the courts of appeals and cassation.
As a reminder, the experts, public figures, lawyers, MPs, and journalists released a memorandum urging to completely renovate the judicial system through a transparent and fair competition for each judgeship.
