August 22, the “City of Literature for Visually Impaired” project presented in Lviv the books by Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko printed specially for children, who cannot see. The books will be sent to the city libraries.
This is reported by Gazeta.ua online media outlet.
The tales and short novels will be sent to Lviv special boarding school No. 100 for the visually impaired children and several public libraries in Ukraine. All the books were published at the request of children’s boarding schools and visually impaired children.
Author of the project, Lviv regional branch executive director of the all-Ukrainian NGO “Ukrainian Union of Persons with Disabilities” Oksana Potymko noted that only about 300 books had been published in Braille for 25 years of the independent Ukraine.
“It is only 10-12 books a year. In contrast, 2,000-3,000 books are printed a year for children who can see,” Potymko said.
Three books by Franko were published thanks to the project. Each book is printed in 30 copies. The book contains a CD with audio version and on-line version.
