A human rights activist reports that, in the last few days in Crimea, a hotel, restaurants and cars belonging to Crimean Tatars have been set on fire.
The Coordinator of the Human Rights Committee of the Crimean Tatar People and member of the Mejlis Eskender Bariiev reported on his Facebook account that Crimean Tatar-owned businesses were targeted by the arsonists.
“Over the past few days, seven private commercial facilities in the village Rybache (Alushta) were torched: a hotel, Café Ai-Petri , Café Uyut, a trade pavilion, retail outlets, and four cars belonging to the Crimean Tatar entrepreneurs,” wrote Bariiev.
Law enforcement officials in Crimea have not made any official statements on the matter.
As reported on the news portal Krym.Realii [Radio Liberty’s Crimean Service], the Religious Administration of Muslims of Crimea has issued a statement saying that a mosque in the Bakhchysarai district was pelted with Molotov cocktails this past weekend.
Earlier, the Crimean Human Rights Field Mission (CFM) reported that “Crimean Self-Defense” operates with the support of the Crimean government. There is evidence of the involvement of this illegal armed group in the abduction, killings, and torture of the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian activists, the obstruction of journalists, attacks on the Ukrainian Orthodox churches of the Kyivan Patriarchate, and searches in mosques, madrassas, and the homes of leaders of the Crimean Tatars, in addition to the seizure of private property.
