Two captured Russian soldiers charged with torturing elderly man seeking food for sick mother in Kharkiv Oblast
Two privates from the Russian Armed Forces‘ 128th Separate Motorised Rifle Brigade, part of the Leningrad Military District’s 44th Army Corps, have been charged with the cruel treatment of a civilian for torturing a man during the occupation of the Kharkiv Region (Oblast), the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
The suspectsThe suspects are Denis Agapov and Roman Sokov.
According to investigators, a civilian entered the courtyard of a Russian-occupied home in the village of Vovchanski Khutory in early April. The elderly man was looking for food for his severely ill mother. Instead, the suspects threatened him with weapons and forced him into a basement.
The man spent 36 days there without electricity, heating, basic sanitation and adequate food. His mother died while he was held captive.
Ukrainian troops captured both suspects in May. They are currently being held in a pre-trial detention facility as prisoners of war.

Separately, Russian National Guard commander Zelimkhan Akhmerzoev was tried in absentia for extorting money from the relatives of a prisoner of war and civilians he tortured in the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
