Investigation against Yanukovych suspended due to putting him on wanted list

The investigation into involvement of ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in the events during EuroMaidan protests has been suspended due to putting him on wanted list.

A source in the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine said this to Ukrinform Ukraine’s news agency correspondent.

The large criminal case on Maidan is being investigated. Since Yanukovych is wanted, the case against him was separated, and the investigation was suspended on the basis of search for suspect as the provision of the Code of Criminal Procedure,” the employee of the Prosecutor General’s Office said.

In case lawyer of Yanukovych reveals the address of ex-president’s current residence, the investigators plan to send the repeated request to the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation asking to detain Yanukovych and transfer him to Ukraine. The lawyer promised to inform his address in Rostov today.

As known, the lawyers of ex-president Viktor Yanukovych announced the suspension of the investigation into their client’s involvement in the events on Independence Square in Kyiv.

According to lawyer Vitaly Serdiuk, “the investigation into the case against Yanukovych and the investigative actions have not been de facto conducted since 2014.”

As reported, Interpol removed the data file of Viktor Yanukovych from the category of wanted persons due to the fact that the ex-president is appealing against the decision to put him on international wanted list in the court.
