Russian strikes on Ukraine killed seven people on March 19

Russian shelling killed seven civilians in the Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions on March 19, 2026. According to the National Police, at least 26 others sustained injuries, with additional casualties reported in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions.

The victims Russian strikes that day include:

  • Two men in the Khutir-Mykhailivska “hromada,” a local government area that includes one or more nearby settlements, Sumy Oblast;
  • An elderly man in the Velyka Pysarivka hromada, Sumy Oblast;
  • A pensioner in Vilniansk, Zaporizhzhia Oblast;
  • A woman in Preobrazhenka, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast;
  • A woman in Yasna Polyana, Zaporizhzhia Oblast;
  • An elderly man in Shyroka Balka, Kherson Oblast.

In addition to the fatalities, numerous civilians were injured by Russian strikes, including at least 13 in the Sumy region. These include three neighbors of those killed in the Khutir-Mykhailivska and Velyka Pysarivka hromadas; the remaining casualties were reported in the Esman, Vorozhba, Khotin, and Sumy hromadas.

Four civilians were injured yesterday in both Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk Oblasts. In the first instance, casualties include a resident of Zaporizhzhia city, a man and a child in Yasna Polyana, and a young girl in Bilenke. In the second, residents of Kramatorsk, Kostiantynivka, and Dobropillia sustained wounds.

Three more people were injured by enemy strikes in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and two each in the Kherson and Kharkiv regions on March 19.

To provide background, Russian shelling claimed the lives of four people across Ukraine over the course of March 18.

In other news relevant to war, the organizers of the Venice Biennale have stated that no sanctions were violated regarding the opening of the Russian pavilion, confirming Russia’s authorization to participate in this year’s exhibition, Artnews reported. The organizers emphasized that “no rules were broken” and noted that all relevant documentation has been submitted to the Italian Ministry of Culture. The Biennale team expressed their opposition to any form of censorship or the exclusion of art. They maintained that the exhibition must remain a “place of dialogue, openness, and artistic freedom”. The Venice Biennale called the unprovoked war of the Russians against Ukraine and the killings of citizens of Ukraine an ongoing geopolitical tension.

Meanwhile, driven by the easing of U.S. sanctions and rising energy prices, the Kremlin earned approximately €7.7 billion during the first half of March. According to Euronews, citing the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), that is equivalent to around €513 million a day, up from about €472 million a day in February.

Global oil prices, including that for Brent crude oil, have ballooned since joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February. On Thursday, Brent crude oil traded above $119 (€103) a barrel as strikes on both sides continued.
