Russian attack damages residential high-rise in Kyiv, injuring eight civilians

On the night of February 25, Russia launched missile strikes against civilian targets in Kyiv. Air defence forces repelled the attack, but missile debris struck a residential building, sparking a fire, according to the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the State Emergency Service, the fire broke out in the Pozniaky residential area on the left bank, at 7A Koshytsia Street. Eight people were injured, one of whom is in critical condition. Firefighters rescued 20 people and evacuated 150 others.

To provide background, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Powerful explosions occurred in several Ukrainian cities at around 5:00 a.m., which were reported on social media by residents of Kyiv, Kharkiv, the Chernihiv region, and Odesa.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned on Friday that Russian “sabotage groups” had entered Kyiv and urged citizens to remain vigilant.
