Ukrainian authorities accused Russia of hundreds of violations of a short ceasefire coinciding with Orthodox Easter celebrations.

The Ukrainian military stated that Russian forces had committed 2,299 violations since the truce began at 16:00 local time, including executing four unarmed soldiers.

In particular, 28 enemy assault actions, 479 Russian shellings, 747 Lancet, or ‘Molniya kamikaze drone strikes, and 1045 FPV drone strikes were reported. There were no strikes with missiles, guided aerial bombs, or ‘Shahed’ type UAVs.

In Ukraine’s northern Sumy region, which borders Russia, local authorities said a Russian drone hit an ambulance overnight, injuring three medics.

A Ukrainian ambulance in Sumy Oblast shows heavy damage from an attack at night, with its windshield completely shattered and the front driver's side crumpled. Shrapnel holes are visible along the side door and body of the white vehicle, which features red stripes and the "103" emergency number, while the Sumy Regional Military Administration (OVA) logo appears in the bottom-right corner.

“A Russian drone has hit a vehicle in the Hlukhiv “hromada,” a local government area that includes one or more nearby settlements. Three medics have been injured. They received immediate medical attention. There is no threat to their lives,” said  Oleh Hryhorov, head of Sumy Oblast Military Administration.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that two people were injured and a fire broke out in a shop due to a Russian strike on Kharkiv Oblast on the morning of April 12, 2026. The rescuer reported that Russian forces had struck the village of Zolochiv in the Bohodukhiv district on Orthodox Easter Sunday, in violation of the ceasefire declared by Moscow.

Shelves remain stocked with snacks and household goods, while large windows at the back let in natural light, and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) logo is visible in the bottom-left corner.

A drone strike caused a fire in a food shop, injuring a man and a woman.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously said his nation’s forces would respond “symmetrically” to Russian attacks during the ceasefire, calling Easter “a time of peace”.

He added that he hoped the truce could be extended beyond Easter to facilitate peace negotiations, which have all but stalled with the outbreak of war in the Middle East – but Russia rejected the idea, saying its attacks would resume on Monday.
