Only 1% of Ukrainians reported on corruption to the prosecutor’s office or the police over past 12 months.

At the same time, 16% of people are interested in reporting, and 6% are interested in finding out how to do that. This is evidenced by the results of the survey conducted by the PACT Inc., Transparency International press service said to Ukrinform news agency.

As evidenced by the results of the PACT Inc. survey, only 1% of the respondents reported on corruption to the prosecutor’s office or the police over past 12 months. 16% of people are interested in reporting, and 6% are interested in finding out how to do that. The Ukrainians view the media among the helpers in exposing the corruption as 12% of the respondents are willing to tell the journalists about corruption facts,” reads the statement.

As indicated, the reasons for such inactivity were not studied, but they may be related to the reluctance of people to solve the problems on their own and the lack of knowledge about their rights.

The people, who reported on corruption and were involved in other types of social activity (peaceful assemblies and complaints against local authorities), evaluated their experience differently. 27% said that reports on corruption caused positive changes, 26% said that had taken much time, but at least something changed. 26% said that there was no result, but, generally, it is important to be socially active.

Such results give hope that the number of people, who took part in social activities, will not decrease at least. If these citizens share their experiences with friends and encourage them, the larger part of people will become more active,” the Transparency International states.

The number of those implicitly interested in reporting on corruption has decreased: 21% in September 2014, 28% in April 2015, and 22% in November 2015.
