The Justice Ministry of Ukraine has prepared the project of sale of the Lukyanivka remand prison and construction of a remand prison near the circular road in Kyiv instead.

The entity, which wins the contest for the right to obtain a land plot in the central part of Kyiv, first, will have to built the remand prison under the European standards, according to the project approved by the Justice Ministry, put it in commission, and then the investor will have the right to build a Kiev City in Lukyanivka,” Herashchenko wrote.

He compared Lukyanivka remand prison to “the dungeons of 19th century” and emphasized that people should wait for a trial in normal conditions.

The same innovation should be implemented gradually in other regional centers as well, where the remand prisons do not meet the detention conditions in accordance with the European standards,” he added.

As reported, the number of the temporary detention facilities in Ukraine reduced 2.5 times.
