EU looks forward to approval of amendments to Ukrainian Constitution on decentralisation
Brussels expects Ukraine to approve the constitutional amendments related to decentralisation and other important reforms.
This was stated by EU High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini and EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, DW.com reports.
In their joint statement, Mogherini and Hahn welcomed passing of the constitutional amendments related the reform of the judicial system and pledged further EU’s support for Ukrainian authorities in order to achieve specific results in the short term.
“We hope today’s vote [on constitutional amendments related to judiciary] will create momentum for the adoption in the final reading of the pending constitutional amendments related to decentralisation and other important reforms,” the joint statement reads.
Yesterday, Ukrainian lawmakers passed the new version of the Law of Ukraine “On Judicial System and Status of Judges” and the constitutional amendments related to judiciary.
The human rights activists and experts slammed the amendments, pointing to the fact that they could become be a tool to control the judiciary.
