GPU Opens a Case on the Obstruction of Euromaidan Investigations

The General Prosecutor’s Office (GPU) has opened criminal proceedings in regards to employees of the Interior Ministry, the GPU, and the Security Service (SBU) preventing a proper investigation of crimes committed during the Euromaidan protests.

RBC Ukraine reports that this was said at a briefing by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Victor Shokin.

“It has been determined as fact that officials from the GPU, the Interior Ministry, and SBU having been creating obstacles to the investigation, destroyed evidence, and committed other offenses during the pre-trial investigation of these criminal proceedings. In response, the GPU has recorded data about these breaches of Art.365 Part 3 of the Criminal Code (Excess of authority or official powers if they caused any grave consequences) into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations of Ukraine (ERDR),” said Shokin.

According to him, the GPU has set up a department to investigate crimes committed by law enforcement officers. The department has three sections to investigate crimes committed by employees of the Interior Ministry, Security Service, and the GPU. Staffing begins today.

Earlier, coordinators of the Maidan Search Initiative reported that, a year after the Euromaidan events, 55 participants are still considered missing. The database of the volunteer initiative “Euromaidan SOS” has the names of 27 missing Euromaidan activists.
