Chairman of Court of Appeals of Cherkasy region Volodymyr Babenko submits resignation
Chairman of the Court of Appeals of Cherkasy region Volodymyr Babenko has written a letter of resignation.
This is reported by the High Council of Justice of Ukraine.
“Following consideration, the High Council of Justice decided to make a submission to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on dismissal in connection with a letter of resignation filed by Chairman of the Court of Appeals of Cherkasy region Volodymyr Babenko,” reads the Council’s decision.
As reported, last year judge of this court Serhiy Bondarenko stated that Volodymyr Babenko had demanded that he should have delivered unjust judgment in the case, initiated on the basis of a claim filed by JSC “Azot” owned by tycoon Dmytro Firtash, against teacher Oksana Yashan. The enterprise tried to evict the teacher from the premises.
After the judge had delivered a judgment in favor of the teacher, he started to suffer systematic pressure and interference in his work.
Member of the public control council and disciplinary commission of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine Roman Maselko believes that the letter of resignation of Volodymyr Babenko is “an attempt to avoid responsibility.”
The lawyer calls on MPs not to vote for his resignation.
