Foreign Ministry of Ukraine outlines timeline for second Peace Summit
Ukraine has completed preparations for the second Peace Summit, though its timing will depend on the potential effectiveness of the gathering, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyy.
“Ukraine has prepared everything necessary for the second Peace Summit. All thematic conferences have been held, coordinating joint positions on the Peace Formula points. Ukraine now holds a strong diplomatic position with all preparations complete,” the Ukrainska Pravda news outlet quoted Tykhyy on the December 27 briefing.
However, he emphasised that achieving productive results requires additional groundwork.
“The previously mentioned dates were tentative, and Ukraine is trying to organise everything as quickly as possible. This is our overarching policy. However, it’s clear that a mere event for the sake of an event is unnecessary. What’s needed is something effective, and work on that continues,” Tykhyy said.
Tykhyy emphasised that Ukraine’s Peace Formula remains the cornerstone of its vision for a just resolution to the war.
Previously, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had initially indicated that summit preparations should conclude by early November 2024. He later introduced the Victory Plan as a “bridge” to the Peace Summit, designed to establish conditions for implementing the Peace Formula.
On December 26, Russia claimed that Slovakia has allegedly proposed that potential peace talks be held on its territory. However, Ukraine has reminded Bratislava about the peace formula, Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyy said at a press conference.
Regarding the venue for negotiations, the spokesman noted that “various ideas and proposals from different parties and leaders have been circulating in the information space from time to time.”
“Ukraine needs a sustainable, just, and comprehensive peace,” he emphasised. “There is a peace formula process. We call on all parties that want to help to play their role. Everyone can find a role for themselves in these efforts to truly bring peace closer. This applies to all our partners, including the Slovak side,” Tykhyy noted.
