Russia bans Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People
The so-called “Supreme Court of Crimea” recognized the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People as the extremist organization and banned its activities in Russia.
The judgment was delivered by the panel of judges headed by judge Natalia Terentyeva at the suit filed by “prosecutor of Crimea” Natalia Poklonskaya, Meduza news outlet reports.
Poklonskaya stated in the suit that the Crimean Tatars themselves complained about the “illegal and provocative” activities of the Mejlis.
“To recognize the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People as the extremist organization and to ban its activity in the territory of the Russian Federation,” the verdict reads.
As a reminder, the prosecutor of the Russian de facto authorities in Crimea, Natalia Poklonskaya filed a lawsuit to ban the Mejlis on February 15 this year.
